Our Vision

God is gathering us in West Witney to join with his mission to the lost.

As His gathering people we are called to offer an invitation; to come to Jesus and become like Jesus in the community.

Our Aim

Establish a Christian community in West Witney in advance of a planned housing development – the Curbridge Estate.

Develop a Christian presence on the estate, by moving into a house there, running the local community facility & offering the hospitality of Jesus to people who move into the area.

Grow the church to be self sustaining of itself and further church plants to the West of Witney.

Our Progress

Phase 1 – Explore

Phase 2 – Establish

Phase 3 – Engage

Phase 4 – Enlarge

Phase 5 – Expand

  • Exploring - during the last year we have sought God’s heart for the area and have clearly heard him call us to this work.
  • Establishing – in May of this year (2015) we began the process of establishing Witney Baptist Church. Now in the autumn we are established as a separate Baptist church, are members of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and Southern Counties Baptist Association as well as part of Churches Together in Witney.

The process of establishing “how we are, who we are” continues. We are currently a membership of 12 gathering about 20 for Sunday morning worship. We run a Sunday school, midweek groups, which currently are Alpha and Pastoral Care as Mission.

We are engaged in prayer for the area in particular asking that 50 workers hear God’s call to engage with the vision for the Kingdom to come in the area and join WBC in the Lord’s service.

  • Engaging – The development work should be starting in 2016. We are now looking to create a programme of community engagement and outreach to the area. Prayerful discernment in seeking better to understand and serve the emerging community on the new housing development will be a key element of our progress.

We are in the early stages of consultation with developers to run a community led café and creative centre known as “The Ark” on the development.

We are seeking to have a community chaplain based on the estate leading a team, in offering the hospitality of Christ to the emerging community.

  • Enlarging – Growing WBC to a viable size to become self-supporting in finance and personnel.
  • Expanding – planting out from WBC west into Carterton with a daughter church.
