The Straightened Path

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3.5

There is, I think, a difference between wholehearted trust and blind faith. One elects, on the basis of certain truths and experiences, to entrust oneself; the other crassly assumes all will be well without any basis for optimism.

As Christians we learn to trust that the path we are on, no matter how meandering it may appear today can and will be straightened for us by the Lord in whom we trust.

As Abraham was to learn as he became a parent at the grand age of 100 with his wife and mother to be Sara not much younger – “Is anything to hard for the Lord?”

Below are a couple of quotes concerning the place of trusting faith which I found to be helpful, I hope you do as well.

“It is a glorious thing to know that your Father God makes no mistakes in directing or permitting that which crosses the path of your life. It is the glory of God to conceal a matter. It is our glory to trust Him, no matter what.”

Jodi Eareckson Tada

“Jesus appears to be holding out his hand to us even as he calls us. He tells us he will provide a bridge over the chasm if we will abide in him. We hear his words, but such language is strange to us, sounding like the dialects of many who have used us or consumed us and then left us along the highway, exposed and alone. We pull back. Many of us return to Vanity Fair and mortgage our heart to purchase more of what is religiously or materially familiar. A few of us arouse our spirit and take a step toward the Chasm.”

Brent Curtis

When chasms, unperceived, open before us I pray we will know the whole hearted trust that is genuine faith in the Lord and rely upon him to lead us on.

For those who yearn to have Christian faith today, I offer the following words from St Paul to Christians seeking to live authentically in pantheistic, multi cultural Rome:-

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
