Ministers Reflections

Hidden in Plain Sight.

This picture of a Sky Lark’s nest, hidden in plain sight, reminded me of this story shared by Steve Chalke.

A hungry man, coming in from the bright sunlight, entered a dark room at great speed – he was in a hurry and wanted to be elsewhere. He had been told that the room was filled with the finest of food and wines and so, although cynical, he wanted to check for himself, just in case, before dismissing the claims.

He glanced quickly around the room and; just as he suspected, he could see absolutely nothing, except darkness. So he turned on his heel and left, happy that he had proved himself right.

In fact, the shelves in the room were laden with food and drink – he simply couldn’t see them, the contrast of sunlight and gloom to great.

The moral of the story...

If at first you see nothing, stay; reflect awhile; let your eyes adjust as you linger. A whole new world may open up to you as you see what has in fact always been there, awaiting your visit.

As I marvelled at the nest full of eggs it gave pause for thought that the Creator awaits discovery in the creation for those who look and linger.

In the nest was life hidden in plain sight waiting to emerge and ascend with beautiful and joyful song. Will we notice?

“Earth's crammed with heaven,

And every common bush afire with God,

but only he who sees takes off his shoes;

the rest sit round and pluck blackberries.”

Elizabeth Barret browning

May you see his glory, even when it is hidden in plain sight
